Similarities between Symphony of the Night and Harmony of Dissonance

The protagonist is a pretty boy with long, fair hair and flowing clothes. (while Juste is far from being the only "Alucard 2.0", he was the first one: Nathan's design was more unique)

The plot revolves around a good person mysteriously turning evil and the Lord of a Castle resurrected too early.

An important plot twist is that there are two castles, a normal one and a twisted, demonic one.

You get the good ending if you fight the rival while wearing a specific item.

You reach the true final boss if you collect all of Dracula's Relics, scattered through the castle(s). As a bonus, they each give you stats boosts or immunity to ailments.

The save rooms have the same ichosaedron.

The warp rooms have the same keyhole design...

... actually, there are only two of these portals in HoD. The real warp rooms in HoD are designed after the portal from which Doppelganger 10 arrives, and it even has the same long animation (to switch between castles: thankfully it's much shorter to warp within the castle).

The Entrances look the same, complete with a forest outside and an alcove of treasures at the very beginning. Future games will make sure to design different Entrances every time.

There is a Marble Gallery/Corridor that splits the castle in two horizontally.

There are long vertical shafts, complete with similarly-designed elevators, to connect top and bottom areas.

The very lower portion of the castle is associated with skulls and bones. It's also where Legion is fought, in a room made of skulls.

There are watery, blueish caves, half man-made and half-natural.

The protagonist can't cross water. (makes sense for Alucard, being a dhampir, but not so much for Juste. Also, Alucard finds a relic to allow him to cross water, but Juste has to drain it.)

You fight Death in those caves, the second version you explore. After AoS, he will be associated with clock towers.

There is a blueish chapel, whose most iconic features are the sky with scrolling clouds and the long staircases, that leads to the Castle Keep: plot-relevant elements are given here (Silver Ring, Maxim's Bracelet). Also, while recycled enemies are common in this series, SoTN and HoD are the only games with Balloon Pods specifically in the chapel.

The Castle Keep is a fake climax, but still plot-relevant. While Castle Keeps all have a similar design, ever since the first game (SoTN added a clock tower that was kept in all subsequent games), it has a secret treasure room on top in both SoTN and HoD.

The Castle has a center where the ending takes place. It opens only after plot-relevant objects have been collected, you use an elevator to reach it, it has a cube-ish design with hieroglyphs, and the true final boss is only fought in the second castle.

Some sections of the castle are completely optional. While future games will have optional bosses or unlockable harder sections, SoTN and HoD allow you to simply not explore the entirety of the castles unless you're going for completion. There is no need to even step foot into zones like the Reverse Colusseum or the Aqueduct of Dragons B, for example.

The protagonist has his own fairy, although she has very different functions in the two games. (Hector, who is Alucard 3.0, will join them later on)

The protagonist learns to high jump with a similar command: Up, Down, Jump.

More than any other game in the series (with perhaps the inclusion of LoI), the soundtracks for SoTN and HoD have an uniquely creepy direction. Compare the likes of Doorway to Heaven, Departed Way, or Cursed Sanctuary, to Luminous Caverns, Maxim's theme, or Epilogue 1.

SoTN was meant to give Alucard his personal room. This concept was finalized in HoD.

Both games reward your exploration skills by giving the protagonist a gf lol.

Shit, I might have to swipe for Korryn's new skin. Original design is hot and all, but a little TOO much in that there's no way I'm opening the game with her ascended original outfit. Moore's looks great as well. What do you think about the new S-rank sinner (Graves)? Ngl, I don't really vibe with her design much? I think bridal theme is neat, but it also kinda seems a bit...eh? No offense haha, not entirely sure why, but hey, if it means saving my cubes after 3 months straight of banger banners, that's dope.

korryn’s skin pisses me off because why couldnt she have looked like that all the time💔 her in actual pants… i shivered. she looks great, the pirate theme is fitting for her as well so i cant blame u for swiping

moore’s is so gorgeous, def more simple than a lot of sinner attires but it suits her well and i love her new battle animations the most, i want her fit just for them lol

i think graves looks promising, the ghost bride theme is very fun and new but i also have a bias towards characters who deal with death and are slightly unsettling especially when they do nothing. i love scary stuff in stories i hope they commit to the bit and i get scared playing her event 🙏🏾 if she’s not your cup of tea your wallet is safe which is always great *looks at the upcoming banners and cries*

I get the feeling Terry’s gonna join Team Zym because he’s not so invested in aaravos’s plans and whatnot and i think he’s gonna wanna try save claudia. Callum is gonna FLIP OUT when he finds out that aaravos is out and he took the candy to the starscraper that’s gonna be bad. And EZRAN TOOO we never see ezran so worked up like we did this season and i’m scared and a little curious to see how he’s gonna be now that katolis is pretty much destroyed. But hey only 3 months until s7 :P

Geometry Dash Awards Nominees 2024

Heyo, doing something a little different for the Geometry Dash Awards. I’m going to go through all the nominations and my thoughts on the levels I find interesting. No number ratings or anything cause who cares

Best Auto Level

Okay, it’s Interstice, like, no contest. Outside of GD, I do motion graphics, and I am just a huge fan of these sorts of animation videos. Color choice is wonderful, great compositions, everything moves in such a satisfying way–it’s perfect, the other nominations don’t even come close.

Best Beginner Classic

Back On Dash is definitely a really great level–I love AudieoVisual levels, but this one feels a lot less unique than his other levels, and it’s not surprising given that this was made for the NCS event levels. Still, pretty great, but I’m gonna have to give this one to Cosmic Dolphin

The song is such a classic, and it takes rainbow blocks and makes something really great with them. I’m a sucker for star/constellation themes, and this level certainly checks that box. But like, it’s just a really fun, cute level. It uses 2.2 features in a really tasteful way.

Another one of the nominations for this category is Rage Quit, which I suspect is going to be the winner and that’s going to be very controversial. There’s nothing I can really say about Rage Quit that hasn’t already been said, so I’m going to stay out of that discourse. Anyway, yeah, Cosmic Dolphin wins this category for me.

Best Intermediate Classic

I’m going to fucking kill myself if BUSSIN wins. I’m not going to go into detail as to why I hate that level, as I’ve already written a little bit about that. Anyway, CARASPACE is gorgeous, it’s absolutely the winner here. Back to back space/constellation themed levels, but look, they’re just pretty. This level has a lot of unique ideas and it executes them really really well. Also, fine, yeah, the rainbows are pretty.

There are some other solid picks in here, though. getHappier is honestly really good, but it’s a bit slow and doesn’t really capture me. I don’t hate it though, there’s for sure a lot to enjoy about it, just not really for me.

Subwoofer Lullaby is an interesting one to me. I might write a full review on this level at some point, because there’s something so curious about a really well-executed Minecraft-themed level made in GD, which is a game with a very powerful level editor, but it wasn’t really intended to do a lot of the stuff people are doing, while Minecraft’s custom content tools have intentional design and are generally pretty good, even if there are a lot of issues lol. There’s a lot to chew on here.

Still, CARASPACE takes it for me, it’s fantastic in so many ways.

Best Advanced Classic

Honestly I don’t have a lot to say about this category. Next Cab Soon and MAGISTRO are both really solid, I’m just not crazy about them personally. WANNACRY is pretty cool, but has a lot of stuff I dislike, and I have a mostly negative view of Citadel and Astralith.

All of the other ones are alright, but nothing to write home about, except for I See Stars. And, to be honest, I don’t have a whole lot to write about for this level. It’s really great compositionally, and color choice and pulses are really well done. The final part with a cube on a glowing glossy field of spikes is just gorgeous. Great level, I See Stars wins best advanced classic for me, no contest.

Best Expert Classic

commatose, commatose, it’s fucking commatose, commatose is the best GD level I’ve ever played in my god damn life and nothing is ever going to top it. I don’t think I’m going to write a whole lot about it here, because I’m planning on writing a full review on it once I beat it.

I will say though, glass beach saved my life. I was in a really dark place when I listened to the first glass beach album for the first time, and it was able to reach out to me when nothing else could. It was an honest depiction of the world for trans people at the time, and it’s only gotten more resonant as the years go by. It’s honestly very uplifting, listen to the first glass beach album it’s so fucking good.

So I was thrilled for glass beach’s second album, plastic death. Initially, it didn’t really speak to me in the same way tfgba did, but over time it’s grown a lot on me. commatose is a beautiful song in every sense of the word, and this level is such a perfect love letter to it.

And, yeah, if it wasn’t obvious, none of the other levels in this category come remotely close to commatose. Out of This World is pretty interesting, but like, god damn commatose is so fucking gooooooood

Best Extreme Classic

I honestly don’t really have much of an opinion on this one. I’ve never really enjoyed extremes, because they’re just too hard to make playing it feel worth it. Mostly the only extremes I like are absolute classics like Bloodbath.

However, DISSONANCE is honestly really great. It’s such a colorful and different experience–I can’t speak much to its gameplay, but visually it’s a whole lot of sparkly digital fun. Good level, ImMaxX1 is a great creator all around.

Best Beginner Platformer

So, platformer levels, huh. I have a lot to say about even the simple existence of platformer levels, but I’ll avoid getting into that now, or else this post would be at least twice as long. Though, a significant portion of my opinion on platformer levels is fueled by the common use of pixel blocks. They’re just ugly as fuck, man. I don’t doubt my opinion on pixel blocks is colored by my experience doing pixel art and 3D models for Minecraft, but like, knowing that doesn’t make pixel blocks in GD less ugly lmao.

And yeah, pixel blocks aren’t exclusive to platformer levels, obviously, but creators seem to use them a lot more. So that’s why Last Fate sucks. Okay, but, yeah, Automata is pretty good. Not crazy about any of these, but Automata wins. Geometry Club is a pretty cool concept, and looks pretty nice, but talking about that level opens up the door to the GD-as-a-game-engine discussion, and that would also probably double or triple the length of this post.

Best Intermediate Platformer

There are some pretty solid levels in here; I mean, half of them are pixel blocks, so they get immediately disqualified (sorry AbstractDark), so the three main contenders for me were 3Depth, The Backrooms, and Pseudo Zone.

The Backrooms is probably my least favorite of the three–it’s pretty cool, but I’ve never been a fan of the direction that the internet took the backrooms concept. It morphed from an uncanny but entirely unhostile environment to a bit of a horror playground. Creatures are just a negative addition no matter how you slice it. I like the idea of the environment itself being the threat–it’s not that some scary monster is gonna kill you, it’s that you’re stuck in this endless, monotonous labyrinth with no hope of escape. The isolation is the terror. Ironically, the addition of monsters humanizes the environment.

So, yeah, cool level I guess, just not crazy about the theming personally. So we’re left with 3Depth and Pseudo Zone. As much as I really admire the concept and execution of 3Depth, it’s ultimately not a GD level. I don’t think making a game on top of regular GD makes a level bad, but it makes a level not a GD level. It’s really cool, but it’s your own concept. And that’s hopefully all I’m going to say about the GD-as-a-game-engine discussion in this post.

In the end, I think Pseudo Zone is the better level. There’s nothing obviously super crazy about it, it’s just really solid. Great concepts and visuals, and it’s just overall fun to play.

Best Advanced Platformer

It’s Flipswap Factory. I don’t have to go into more detail; Coaster Mountain is pretty solid, I mean, it’s made by Serponge after all, but Flipswap Factory is simply a masterpiece in level design. I’m not crazy about most of the visuals, it’s on thin fucking ice with the pixel blocks, but the gameplay concepts are so perfect I can look past that.

The flipping panels function flawlessly, and are just a great extension of normal platformer gameplay. It’s just great.

Best Expert Platformer

Do not talk about Otu, do not talk about Otu, do not talk about Otu…

Honestly, I’m not crazy about any of these levels, but the one I find the most interesting is Orbdancer. I’m not fond of a lot of the UI/menu stuff, but it’s so visually compelling that I’m willing to overlook that. The abstract bright neon aesthetic is wonderful, using orbs/pads so heavily is somehow a very unique concept while also being wholly GD.

Orbdancer isn’t my favorite level by any stretch of the definition, but it’s compelling enough to me that it wins the top spot out of this selection.

Best Extreme Platformer

Look, I am just anti-voting for Throat of the World. It’s so ugly, genuinely awful use of pixel blocks. Not fond of the gameplay either, and it’s astonishing to me that it got a mythic rating, but the rate standards debate is way beyond the scope of this post, which is why I’ve been totally ignoring the in-game ratings up until this point. It’s just so wild that a level I dislike this much would get the highest possible rating.

So, uh, Terminal Heaven wins, I guess. Nothing against Kebnekaise, but I just prefer Terminal Heaven a bit more. G4lvatron levels are all pretty solid.

Best Streamer

This is a level review blog, so I don’t have a whole lot to say about some of these additional categories, but I’ll write about them for completionists’ sake. I’m voting AudieoVisual on this one; I love his building streams. Not much else to say about that one.

Best YouTuber

This one is pretty tough. I’ll get into this a bit more with the next category, but Colon makes some banger videos. He’s a great writer, and the research he’s done for a lot of his videos is absurd.

Best Video

This is absolutely the most difficult decision I’ve made while voting for these awards. Doggie’s Codependence video is kinda out from the start, because, I mean, at the end of the day it’s a video about beating a level that uses primarily gameplay VOD footage. It’s fine, but there’s a limit to how good those videos can be.

My least favorite from here is probably twd’s GD video essay–it’s really well-written, but there’s kind of a lack of substance there. Yeah, I have a lot of nostalgia too, and it was fun to take a look back at things, but these last 4 are just built different.

I mentioned before, Colon makes great videos, and The Secrets of Fake Geometry Dash is no exception. It’s just like, such an absurd series of events, it’s hard to imagine him making a bad video about this topic. It’s great and was enthralling all the way through.

But Sdslayer’s video, How Well Do GD Youtubers Know The ROBTOP LEVELS?, is just as good as Colon’s video in an entirely different way. The concept is really good, and again, it’s hard to imagine this video turning out poorly; game show-esque stuff is always really fun, and it was executed really well here. There’s plenty of fun extra stuff too, like the GD-inspired visuals and bonus stats at the end.

Now, I can’t ignore Spu7Nix’s BTS video of WHAT. I’m such a sucker for flashy visuals; as I’ve said before, I do motion graphics, and I looovee Spu7Nix’s graphics here. The narrative is told excellently, you can genuinely feel the pull of the downward spiral that Spu7Nix went through when making WHAT. It does a great job of explaining what into the level, absolutely in part to the great visuals. The video takes you to the point where it feels like you could make the level too. There’s so much going for this video, but I’ll stop here for brevity.

Okay. Now we’re at How I Made Geometry Dash In Minecraft by CraftyMasterman. This video is fantastic, and I feel so conflicted about placing this one. While I love Colon and Sdslayer’s videos, it was definitely between this and Spu7Nix’s. Crafty is really cool and makes great videos, and if you talked to me personally you would not be able to ignore my love for Minecraft. But. This isn’t really a GD video. This is a Minecraft video. And because of that, I’m choosing to vote for Spu7Nix’s video. Don’t get me wrong, there’s so much about this video that’s great–it honestly mirrors the BTS video of WHAT in many ways. It explains the creation of the project really well, and this is probably the coolest redstone creation I’ve ever seen, but I’ve gotta give it to Spu7Nix.

Honestly, great job to everybody who was nominated for this category, as well as the many great GD video creators who weren’t nominated. It’s so wonderful seeing all this individual passion, creativity, and skill put into making such entertaining and visually captivating videos, which is a part of the reason why it was so frustrating seeing GD10 being included in the nominations last year, but that is absolutely a topic for another day.

Anyway, yeah, amazing videos all around, but I’ll extend a tiny additional bit of praise to Spu7Nix. Phew, that category was a doozy.

Best Classic Creator

There’s so much to write about with this category, but in the interest of not having a repeat of the last category, I’ll keep it brief. Not really a fan of Grax or Subwoofer; kira9999, Glubfubers, and Aimbotter2123 are all really solid; Knots is great, just not for me; ImMaxX1 is a really great creator, but I’m sorry–AudieoVisual is in here and I love his levels, so he kinda wins by default.

Best Platformer Creator

This category is honestly pretty weird, because it’s sort of split in two. There’s good platformer creators in the traditional sense: striving for great visuals and gameplay, but there’s also good programmers. CreatorCreepy and MoistenedEgg are absolutely in the latter, and I’m not discounting that, but levels with good programming just don’t interest me at all from a gameplay perspective. Like, guys, please, just make your own game; it’ll be way easier and you won’t be fighting against the editor designed to make 2D platforming levels.

Out of the rest of the bunch, it’s zejoant no contest for me. Overall, I’ve never been a fan of platformer levels at a conceptual level, but zejoant is genuinely doing great stuff with platformer mode. Good job, zejoant.

Best Classic Player/Best Platformer Player

This category has always been kinda weird to me, like I get the idea is to showcase and honor the dedication and contributions of top players, but it kind of ends up turning into a popularity contest.

For classic, I mean, it’s Zoink, of course it’s Zoink, he’s just the best GD player currently and there’s not really any arguing that.

For platformer, I literally haven’t heard of any of these people, so I’ll just pick AyumiRenko because hehe funny pink robot. Which, sidenote, cool idea representing classic players with cubes and platformer players with robots. I don’t know who on the GD Awards production team came up with that idea, but it’s really cool honestly.

Final Thoughts

It’s really wonderful seeing how talented the GD community is. This year was the first one where 2.2 content was up for nomination, and it’s been really interesting to see the whole community evolving. I’ve written a bit about this, but at first it seemed like 2.2 wasn’t all that groundbreaking for creators. The 2.1 editor is honestly powerful enough–once you get to the point where you’re just making regular art with the principles of design, I mean, additional tools are going to help, but our building skill and creativity as a community is already extremely high.

Those things grow over time, and now we’ve had time to see them grow with 2.2. And, yeah, people have made some great stuff. As critical or pessimistic I can be about specific levels and certain parts of the community as a whole, it’s still a treat to look back on all the great things artists have done with GD.

I’m sure we’re going to see even more of that at the 2025 Geometry Dash Awards, and I can’t wait. Thanks for reading.

TUTORIAL - Changing the default layout when S4S exports a Blend file

Only found tutorials online for changing the layout when you make a new file with The Cube™, but it doesn't affect S4S-exported Blend files. This will do that.

What this doesn't cover: Actually editing the layout. You'll have to play around yourself, but you'll be able to find most things by right-clicking.

Steps below the cut!

1. Navigate to where you've installed Sims 4 Studio, and then follow this path: Sims 4 Studio > Blender > Scenes. You can make a backup of this folder just in case you want to revert the changes. I didn't do this because I didn't have the foresight to do so lol. NOTE: This is different from the Sims 4 Studio file found in Documents.

2. Open up one of the files that are relevant to you.

As stated by their names, these are the layouts for exporting an animation, CAS item, or Build item. NOTE: From a very quick experiment, I believe the difference between x.blend and x.2.8.blend is related to what Blender version you are using with S4S, with the 2.8 version applying for Blender versions 2.8+ (I use 4.0 and this tutorial doesn't work if I don't replace the 2.8 file.)

3. Tweak the layout to how you want it to be.

What I've altered in my preview: - Display Statistics - Closed the Collection 1 in the Outliner - Removed and Added Workspaces that are relevant to me - Flipped Headers to the top of the window - Removed Animation Timeline from bottom of Default workspace

4. Save the layout! If you saved a cas file, then export a CAS object to check. Saved an object file? Then check with a Build item.

And that's it :^)

NOTE: When updating S4S, you will have to replace the blend files again. Make a backup of your edited files and replace them in the Scenes folder. This holds true if you use the installer exe as well.

Llorumi Ramble

What’s really funny about how much I adore Llorumi, considering I’ve been fixated on it for about a year now, is that originally I wasn’t a fan of the ship. 

When I was watching the show for the first time I paid little mind to Lloyd and Harumi’s relationship. Especially in the first half of S8, like “woa so lame... goodie two shoes girl...whatevah…” and even after the reveal I didn’t have any strong opinions. I thought it was a neat dynamic but didn’t really think much of it after Harumi’s death. I thought that was it for their story and Harumi would just be another villain to be, eventually, forgotten about.

But then, I watched “Stop, Drop and Side Scroll” and gosh, the dialogue between Lloyd and what he perceives to be Harumi really captured my attention. The slight stutter when Lloyd first saw the fake Harumi, the way he hesitated to attack her, and how in the end he did technically win the fight…but he still got cubed. 

Of course I eventually reached Crystallized. I was elated at Harumi’s reveal, especially with the payoff of all her mentions between S11 to S13. And holy shit, the reveal that Lloyd went and searched for her corpse had me pacing around my room like a trapped animal LOL. Along with how it’s implied Harumi didn’t die on impact from the fall… and how that adds a lot of angsty context to some of (fake) Harumi's dialogue in “Stop, Drop and Side Scroll”. I kinda want to save the discussion of that for another post though haha. 

Crystallized kind of took a turn for the worst in terms of general story quality pretty quickly after Pt. 1 unfortunately. The storylines were stacking, and there just wasn’t enough time to wrap up Harumi’s redemption, Lloyd’s Oni side, and address their relationship before the season ended. But the pieces were there: Harumi hesitating when she considers just for a moment if they could be better. Lloyd struggles with his rage, and being forced to accept that side of himself as who he is. As someone who struggled with anger issues, it was comforting to see Lloyd conflict with that side of himself. And the brief hand holding at the end of “Roots”, a brief callback to what you might’ve seen between them in early S8. Crystallized failed to do a lot, but I could appreciate what we got out of the season. 

In my little sandbox, these two characters are so fun to play with. For the past year I’ve been brewing a post-crystallized AU (with the help of a few friends!) that attempts to address a few of the issues I’ve mentioned earlier. Along with that, I actually started drawing people and humans in general so I could create content for the ship and my art has improved greatly from 2 years ago. I love creating stories, headcanons, and artwork for these silly LEGO people. Heck, I even made a ship playlist for them that I listen to daily. I just think they're so neat.

TLDR: I’ve never been this insane about a ship before and they mean so so much to me. And I love the stuff I make about them. Live, laugh, love, llorumi.

Had a dream that they came out with another Distant Lands episode of Adventure Time which actually explained all the cosmic entities, framed through an explanation of where Prismo's sleeping old man came from. In the dream, the old man's name was just Paul and he was a guy on earth during the days leading up to the mushroom war who slept through everything. His family made jokes about how he would probably sleep through the apocalypse, and he couldnt hold down any jobs because he was always so sleepy. He had a wish to someday make the perfect pickle, but nobody took him seriously. He also had a small dog who always got jnto mischief. Meanwhile, in his dreams, he was communing with various gods, especially the cosmic owl. At some point the cosmic owl just casually says to him "Oh actually the apocalypse IS coming lol" and he just freaks out, and cosmic owl just says something about seeing if he can get him a job with his boss, changing the subject awkwardly. Paul says "yeah sure, whatever", and then wakes up to an air raid as bombs are dropping in his neighborhood. He runs, and falls down into a sewer, which somehow lets him survive the initial blast, but he get irradiated. From then on out we see Paul moving from refugee camp to refugee camp, surviving the final days of humanity, while his dreams seem empty, and he laments that even what he thinks are his imaginary friends have given up on him. Meanwhile, we're shown Cosmic Owl going to their boss, who we only ever see as a ball of pulsing light which changes color constantly, and speaks through a monotonous drone. The Cosmic Owl then gathers all the cosmic entities to discuss Paul, and all of them agree that Paul is worth saving--of interest is that Scarab is amongst those saying this. But that direct interference just to save one guy isnt okay. But what they CAN do is pull out his inner cosmic essence and ascend him to godhood, something Cosmic Owl laments as not being ideal. So then Cosmic Owl comes to Paul, as he's ain a group of survivors, the children of which have animal hats, and Paul is about to turn into one of the goo monsters that result from radiation. Cosmic Owl says he has a way out of his horrible fate, but its kinda a monkey's paw type deal. Paul simply says sure, and Cosmic Owl tells him to shut his eyes, and focus on what his inner cosmic essence tells him he should do. Paul just smiles sadly and says, he's met so many people who never got to see their wishes to fruition, he just kinda wants to be able to bring their wishes to life. Suddenly, Paul's shadow starts turning pink, and Cosmic Owl whisks him away from earth, knowing that he cannot be there any longer, pulling him to one of the many random floating rocks in space. And then boom, suddenly, reality unfolds into the cube Prismo lives in, right above Paul, and Paul heals up and falls into a deep sleep. Prismo and Cosmic Owl have a quick conversation, where its clear Prismo has no memory of Paul's life, but Cosmic Owl makes some comment about pickles, and Prismo lights up talking about making pickles. Cosmic Owl smiles gently, appreciating that there's still a little bit of Paul in there, even if Prismo isnt him. Cosmic Owl explains his job as wishmaster real quick, and goes on his way to report back to the others. Prismo starts flipping through channels, fast forwarding through ones, and ends up seeing Jake making bacon pancakes and smiles. Then we cut away to Cosmic Owl with the other entities from earlier, explaining Prismo, and Scarab gets pissed. Scarab apparently really loved talking to Paul, and now Paul was forbidden to ever awaken, so long as Prismo was free to be himself. He swore vengeance on Prismo then and there, saying that if he made even the slightest mistake, he would take him down and bring Paul back. And thats when the episode ended.

And yes, i do dream entire episodes of things sometimes with complete plot points. My brains just like this.

Watched Apothecary Diaries and then I bought vol 1 & 2 of the manga and read them both within 2 hours so I probably should've bought vol 3 as well but I didn't.

Anyways, differences from the anime vs the manga, mainly small details I like from both. Edit: Any Light Novel Readers, please correct me! I would love to know what was cut when it was turned into a manga!

In the manga we see Maomao put the flower with the note on the table for the respective concubines to find, as opposed to a windowsill in the anime

Jinshi, in the anime, is shown to gush over Maomao's disgust of him to Gao Shun twice as opposed to once. And honestly that just makes it funnier

The physician gives more background info on Concubine Fuyou in the manga. How the officer she was going to be given away to is a childhood friend of hers, which adds more context to who the soldier is

But the extra scenes from the anime on the couple is honestly so precious

Also, the incident with the poisoned food from the village, apparently the level headed soldier in that is the same one Fuyou ends up with. It's an anime exclusive

Chapter 2 & 3 are relatively uneventful, mainly filled with more information on things so those two chapters make up the whole of episode 2. Meanwhile episode 1 & 3 are whole chapters, with added scenes to add more context

It didn't feel obvious to me in the anime, but Jinshi did snag a piece of Maomao's snack during that neck kiss. In the manga he's seen wiping his lip, probably from the extra chocolate

Wording differences between the manga & subtitles. Depending on scene, I prefer one more to the other as. Ex: Maomao's explanation of why she can eat the chocolate thing as a snack and not worry about its effects. Her wording in the official subs is weird to me, while in the manga is more straight to the point

The increase amount of chibi kitty maomao in scenes in the anime, 10/10

In the manga, it seems that Maomao lived in the brothel but worked with her dad for apothecary stuff

In the anime, it's more coded that Maomao lives with her dad and just visits the brothel often

Speaking of, added scenes prior to Maomao becoming staff for the Inner Palace in the anime that shows her life before hand

Consort Gyokuyo laugh is cute in both, but her laugh in the manga looks cuter to me

The woman who requested to have tea with Jinshi is a mid-tier concubine. Three concubines have invited Jinshi to their private chambers, all of varying tiers (Manga)

A consort's place in the tier varies depending on several factors outside of status. It grades intelligence the strictest of all (manga)

Jinshi does know of others who have taken no carnal desire to him but looking at him with such blatant disgust is new (Manga)

Maomao's chocolate making includes some herbal oil and spirits, and the exact thing she wanted was solid cacao but they only had powder (Manga)

Maomao's chocolate cubes are bread that soaked up the excess chocolate, while the ones made for the Jinshi use dried fruit (Manga)

Due to remember the smell of many drugs and poisons, Maomao is also good at remembering foods

They made the scene with Maomao saying that the chocolate's aphrodisiac effects being three times stronger than the normal stuff a lot funnier in the anime lol

A detail I like in regards to episode 3/Chapter 4's main plot, is that episode 3 implies that saving that village from being wrongly prosecuted got the soldier high prestige while Chapter 4 states that he has worked hard for it

Fanfiction writers, I suggest having that incident in the village/barbarian attack be the final tipping point into Fuyou's childhood friend/lover reaching a certain level of prestige to be rewarded Fuyou's hand

So the explanation was confusing to me in the anime, but the second courtesan incident Maomao speaks of is that she feigned sleepwalking to be sold at a lower price to the man she actually wanted to be with. Because he lacked the silver to free her, so he had an acquaintance request to buy her, she starts to "sleepwalk" and the offer is dropped and due to her being sick the price is lowered (manga)

Concubine Fuyou looks happy on the day she leaves the Inner Palace in the manga

Little bonus manga pages. Xiaolan does Maomao's hair in a style popular with the other servants while Maomao's asleep. Jinshi is the one to see her and point out her hairstyle

Chibi strips, one is Maomao apparently gaining weight due to being the poison checker and being fed by the other ladies-in-waiting. Jinshi asks if she's been gaining weight

The second one is Maomao being thinner and Jinshi feeling guilty because was it what he said?

No, Maomao's workout routine is just getting distracted picking medicinal herbs as fast as possible

And I believe that's all that comes to mind? If anyone else who's read the manga wants to add more details please do!

I used to sing along with the opening of the first season. The game is phenomenal. Again, a bit problematic because it’s… Mildly sexist. I actually like The Great Ayato and his bullying… I’m sorry my breasts are tiny… I’ll pray for them to grow so you’ll be happy my lord… Ahem… The English voice acting is horrible. I watched it only in Japanese because I couldn’t stand how lifeless they sounded in English. To my knowledge, and I may be wrong, the game is fully voice acted. You just need a translator.

I do secretly write for DiaLove. I was planning to only post it on Wattpad. I wanted to make a big story called ‘Juice Box’ but I never figured out who I wanted to be the main interest. Since the anime follows Ayato’s storyline heavily, it didn’t feel fair to the other potential routes. But I do sometimes write little oneshots. I just never post them since DiaLove is so niche now. I hope it stays niche. If TikTok discovered it and some of my other favorite games I would rip my heart from my chest and cannibalize myself.

I actually like Twilight a lot. I have a friend who owns the books and I want to finish reading soon. I watched the movies! I say problematic because the boys are pretty sexist and there is a lot of nonconsensual harassment and touching. Also the neck biting scenes are very intimate and have been suggested to be an allegory for sex depending on the scene. Again, usually nonconsensual because Yui/MC has no backbone. Testing Unreal Engine 5

Hi everyone! Right after stage 1 presentations, I decided to download unreal Engine 5 and get myself familiar with the settings. I decided to download unreal Engine 5 because it's quite difficult to find tutorials for Unreal Engine 4. Hopefully I won't have any big issues with this UE version TOT

For today, I'll be honest, I wasn't able to do much. I decided to have a look at the shapes and structures there in the 'content' tab and I decided to make a basic structure of what Gore's apartment would look like.

I even checked through the materials and added a brick texture onto the apartment walls.

One issue I came across was making the stairs accessible. I stacked the staircase multiple times to make it long and I hoped that it would be accessible when playing. But I was wrong :(

I got some help from Thameena as well to see if these was an issue with the collision. We even converted it from complex to simple collision. But I didn't work at all. Guess I'll have to try another way of adding stairs TOT

That's basically it for today's work! I'm hoping to focus on this more tomorrow after getting some proper rest lol.

Hi everyone! Today I continued on yesterday's work. I started off by figuring out the best way to add an accessible staircase. I added a bunch of cubes to the scene and scaled them as required to create a staircase. Luckily, this method actually worked well!

After that, I added a grass texture onto the ground plane and then I got started on making the steppingstones! For the steppingstones, I used some cylinders, added in a gravel texture onto them and then placed them accordingly!

Afterwards, I decided to import a maya file of the forest I modeled for my mi4014 animation just to get a rough idea on how I want to add in the trees to the floating park.

I added in the same grass texture onto the forest ground, but for some reason, the textures aren't appearing. It might be because it's a low poly model.

This is what the environment looks like from afar! Now we can get started with the recording!

Game play test -

So, I did have a couple of game play tests that I did, but it was mainly of me not being able to properly jump onto the steeping stones haha. So, I scaled down the steppingstones and I lessened the gap between them so it's much easier to jump to them.

While trying out this game play, I realized that the last steppingstone close to the floating island was too high to jump to. So, I adjusted the high of that steppingstone after this screen recording.

Afterwards, I decided to create three glowing triangles to represent the collectables in the game. I even made a small wooden structure for the bench.

However, once I did try the gameplay, I realized that the forest looked way too big. The trees and the artifacts had been placed in a way to look at least 10 times larger than the play, which was not my intention at all. I knew I would have to work on the scaling once again.

Bad update -

The file crashed TOT. I think there was an issue with one of the assets I imported. I should've saved everything :(

I'll try setting up everything again later. Anyways, I need to change the size of the trees and the collectables since they look way too big. So, I will stay optimistic on this, and I'll work on this tomorrow.

I'll have to start from here!

Random thoughts on the D&D movie in no particular order:

I loved the jokes. All of them. All the stupid jokes. I was their target audience and they succeeded at making me cackle at dumb shit while my partner's soul left his body

The landscape shots were breathtaking and honestly made me tear up at the beauty in places. In the theater, I remember thinking, "Yeah, FUCK yeah, these guys understood the assignment!" Nine out of ten times, I think fantasy should be animated, because if you don't pour millions into the budget, the action looks like crummy LARPers wearing silly costumes in the woods. This movie understood that if you're doing live action fantasy, you owe your audience some damn beautiful landscape shots and damn did they deliver on some beautiful landscape shots.

I sincerely appreciated Holga and her husband being divorced but still amicable. I'm so tired of the trope of exes being evil or awful. They just seemed like two adults who wanted to love each other but the circumstances of being together doomed them from the start. It was played for laughs but it was just a moment I genuinely enjoyed as divorcee. I also loved her ex's new wife looking exactly like her, both for the gag, and for what it said about both of them being each other's type even if it didn't work out.

I also cackled like a hyena at Holga's halfling fetish while also finding it rather sweet and enjoyed imagining all the reasons why she might have that preference lol

As a basic Drizzt Do'Urden loving bitch, I squeed when I saw Icewind Dale on the map. Then I had a moment between that and the Underdark of wondering, "Am I gonna see him? Even in the distance? Am I going to see my first love, Drizzt Do'Urden??"

And then I realized: the Paladin. The Paladin is Drizzt. Only good person who came out of a nation destroyed by evil. Too good for this world, too pure, to the point of being sanctimonious but is also a hottie. Xenk is Drizzt.

Oh, I also squeed when I saw the Underdark.

I appreciated how knowledge of D&D improved certain story beats (like the gelatinous cube or the displacer beast) but wasn't required to enjoy the plot. That's how references should be done.

The most agonizingly cringe moment for me was when Holga was dying. Just. I appreciated the beat. It couldn't go any other way. They delivered on their set up with the tablet, the only question was ever, "Who besides his wife is going to get saved with it?" And it made perfect sense who it was. I'm glad they didn't try to pull a fast one. But the scene was like... 10 seconds too long of her dying for me to not roll my eyes. We know you're going to use the tablet on her, dipshit, please keep this moving.

BUT I think the reason they did it was to land a sincere moment with the daughter, and I appreciated that. I think the scene could have been improved by Holga being like, "Don't you fucking dare use that tablet on me!" and then smacking him when he did it anyway and then he'd have to explain that he set out to save his daughter's mother, not his wife, who has passed on, etc etc. but I'm not sure that would have been much better so maybe the drawn-out opera death scene and the sincerity was better in the end idk.

I KINDA wanted to see the actors as the players playing D&D BUT I know why they didn't and it was a wise choice, it undermines the drama too much to say it doesn't matter because it's a game. Maybe if instead they'd should the characters playing D&D in universe as normal humans? Idk

I thought there'd be more Xenk? I thought he'd be in the arena with them? A little bummed but I also loved his GM NPC energy.

The combat and camera work was great! Genuinely enjoyable and well made, I appreciated the artistry that went into it.

Loved the bardic distraction scene for truly capturing the chaos of a D&D party's attempt at breaking and entering

Loved the portals bit for truly capturing the strategy and planning that can go into a functioning D&D campaign's clever heist, even if I'm sure it would have taken 5 sessions to plot out IRL

Honestly, it was just a fun, solid film! It's been a while since I've seen such a fun, solid film! I would buy it and put it on in the background to just enjoy and not angst over it! It was worth the price of admission, it was faithful to the spirit of D&D instead of sneering at it the way the early 2000s one did, and I had a good time! It wasn't the highest of art but it would have been weird if it had been! I liked it a lot!
